Louis Sakwe, NP is a Board Certified Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner and a member of the Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association (GAPNA). As a Board Certified Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner, Louis worked for CARELON (formerly CAREMORE) by catering to the post acute care and primary health care needs of the elderly at several nursing homes and assisted living facilities in the Greater Richmond Region.
Due to limited access to primary care services, the prevalence of diseases such as Hypertension, Diabetes, Hyperlipidemia, Chronic Kidney Disease, Obesity and Cardiovascular Disease has soared in recent years leading to a higher incidence of patients presenting with complications such as strokes, end-stage renal disease, amputations and metastatic cancers. Some of these could be prevented with improved access to primary care services leading to early diagnosis, treatment and management.
The lack of adequate primary care access in his community inspired Louis to set up SACKZY MED, a primary care practice serving the adult population of Central Virginia. 

Professional Experience:

To pay his way through undergraduate nursing school, Louis worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Nursing Homes where he developed his passion of caring for the elderly. In his role as a bedside nurse, Louis worked with acutely ill patients on step-down units at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and Virginia Commonwealth University Health System respectively. Louis later decided to pursue graduate studies in nursing at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Nursing in Richmond, Virginia with a specialty in adult-gerontology primary care.

Early life: 

Louis was born and raised in Cameroon, Central Africa by his dad, a university professor and his mom, an elementary school teacher. Throughout his childhood, his parent’s emphasized the importance of education, hard work, accountability, and impacting your community positively by being a productive member of society. When Louis was in high school, his 14 year old cousin died in the recovery room of the hospital after an appendectomy. This traumatic experience left Louis with a lot of questions, which made him determined to seek answers by going into a medical program. Hence, Louis relocated to the United States in 2008 to pursue a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing at Southern University and A & M College, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Family Life: 

Louis is an avid half-marathon runner who also enjoys playing soccer and spending quality time with his wife and three kids.
